Open Source: New Open Source Tools for Your Library
This year has brought a host of new Open Source releases of software, including a metasearch service, an ILS and a computer reservation system.
LibraryFind is a metasearch service developed by the State Library of Oregon. It allows users to search many different places, including ILSes, magazines, newspaper articles and the web all with a single search. You can read more about LibraryFind here and try it out here
Evergreen is an open source ILS developed by the Georgia PINES system. This joins Koha, the first ever open source ILS, developed in New Zealand for the Horowhenua Library Trust in making information afordable. You can read more about Evergreen here .
Finally, Userful has also announced PreBook as an Open Source project. PreBook allows users to book computers and libraries to track time across both DiscoverStation and Windows-based public computers. Read about PreBook here

Featured Feature: Printing Options
Saving money on printing is something every library wants to do. With DiscoverStation, you have print cost recovery options that range from simple to fully featured. Out of the box, DiscoverStation will automatically inform a patron how much their print-job will cost and give them the option of continuing or cancelling. A simple add on allows for librarians to intercept print jobs at the reference/circulation desk and release them as they're paid for. If you want to go more advanced, we can also offer coin boxes, swipe cards and other methods of print cost recovery.
